With the reveal of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) being the witch behind everything in Westview, everyone wants to know how and why she has manipulated Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen). Despite the catchy jingle which explained the influence Agatha has been having over key events during WandaVision, the actual plan has not yet been revealed. An evil plan has been hinted at and does allow for us to speculate what the plan Agatha has up her magical sleeves may be.

Agatha is working for someone?

ree

Straight out of the gate, everything in the series has pointed at Agatha working for someone much darker. We don’t know who this person is yet but like all fans have been saying, the dark entity which Agatha serves is Mephisto.

Evidence for this has been consistent throughout. Mentions to the devil and demon spawn are more obvious references, but there have also been smaller details like dates and names that relate to the devil. With no clear motive for Agatha, it fits that she would be working for a dark entity. The comics also help back this up as Wanda’s twins Billy and Tommy were shards of the Mephisto’s soul and Agatha helped keep this a secret from Wanda. Similarities between the comics and the show are clear but it has to be remembered that the MCU never directly copy a comic book story.

Introducing a dark book we believe to be the Darkhold provides more evidence that Agatha will be working for a dark entity as the book is known for being the ‘book of sins’.

ree

Origins of the Darkhold are connected to the demon Chthon, as his magical spells, written on scrolls were combined to create the book. How this links to Agatha and WandaVision is that the book is filled with dark magic, a type of magic which is in use from Agatha. It doesn’t take an expert to link dark magic from a witch to the devil; hence it is likely that Mephisto will be the one Agatha has been working for.

Although the devil looks likely to enter the MCU, the introduction will not take anything away from Agatha being the main villain of the series. We just need to establish that Agatha the witch is trying to please the devil. Also it wouldn’t be a surprise if Mephisto doesn’t appear in WandaVision, his appearance would come in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which we know follows on from the events of WandaVision.

Agatha Harkness has been established as the main villain for the series. Working for Mephisto provides the context as for why Agatha has been manipulating Wanda, but doesn’t explain how she has been able to fool the most powerful Avenger.

Agatha’s manipulation:

ree

‘Agatha all along’ provided viewers an explanation for many questions that were causing frantic debates across the fan base. That being said each detail that was revealed had no link to what Agatha has been trying to achieve. There has been no explanation as to why she took each action and how they fit with her plan.

If we look at each reveal individually then we will continue to have this problem. Instead if we look for links then a plan from Agatha seems to come together.

Firstly Agatha reveals that it has been her along, but as the jingle continues we learn that Agatha was controlling the town’s reaction to Wanda and Vision’s (Paul Bettany) magic show. We also are told that Agatha caused Herb (David Payton) to act suspicious in episode 3 and also faked her interaction with Vision in the Halloween spooktacular episode. As we understand Agatha has been controlling the minds of everyone it helps us piece together her plan.

ree

Understanding that Agatha faked the Vision encounter is key because of what happened after. Vision tried to leave Westview which almost cost him his life. The immediate reason for Vision trying to leave was because of what Agatha said to him. We were originally fooled into thinking Vision unlocked her personality like other town members, but we were misled and the words Agatha spoke were coming from her all along. Tricking Vision into thinking that Wanda won’t allow for anyone to leave was the catalyst for his attempted escape.

Wanting Vision to leave Westview was part of the plan which is backed up with other reveals from Agatha that we mentioned. During episode 3 it was Herb that nearly told Vision something about Westview before Agatha told him to stop it. This was the first moment in the series that Vision began to become suspicious about what has been happening in Westview. Therefore, Agatha impacting Herb to raise suspicion with Vision means that she always wanted him to investigate what was happening in Westview. What likely wasn’t part of the plan was the dramatic expansion of the hex which saved Vision.

ree

Even if the expansion of the hex was part of Agatha’s plan, it cannot be denied that she has been trying to cause a split between the loveable couple. Probably the biggest reveal was that Agatha sent the ‘recast’ Pietro (Evan Peters) to Wanda. The reason for this seems to be to firstly continue dividing the couple, as it was clear that Vision didn’t get along with his speedster brother-in-law.

Continuing the divide between the couple allowed for Vision to explore Westview by himself which we know Agatha influenced. What is also important about Pietro’s return is how he attempts to learn about Wanda’s powers. He asks Wanda how she has created everything, which could be an attempt from Agatha to learn how powerful she is and how she can be manipulated to achieve her goal.

So far the plan of Agatha has been to separate Vision and Wanda, in order to manipulate Wanda for her powers. While this seems to be the most obvious plan, it doesn’t justify what we learnt in the basement of Agatha. To simply split a couple and manipulate a hero doesn’t strike as a major threat. Instead a motive for splitting the couple is needed. Coincidentally when Vision begins to get suspicious is also the time that the twins are born, the same twins in the comics which were parts of Mephisto’s soul.

Where are the twins?

ree

One of the mysteries at the end of episode 7 was where Billy and Tommy are. We are yet to know the details, but after learning Agatha once bit a child we are not holding much hope of a survival.

Agatha’s interactions with the twins throughout the show have been odd and raised questions of why she was always so keen to help look after them. After the disappearance of the twins we can assume that the birth of Billy and Tommy was essential for her plan.

We previously had theorised after episode 5 that Agatha at the time was attempting the make the twins age quickly. Both times the twins aged up Agatha was directly involved and when the twins nearly aged for the third time because of the death of their dog, it was Agatha that found Sparky dead. Now we know that Agatha killed Sparky, it makes even more sense that she was trying to impact the children so they aged quicker. Killing their dog and showing them was more than enough to make the twins want to age past the pain, which would have happened if not for Wanda’s mothering.

ree

With the disappearance of Billy and Tommy, as well as the knowledge that Agatha has been trying to remove Vision from Westview after the children were born definitely means the twins are the key to her plan. We think Agatha has been trying to make the twins reach an age suitable for her to conduct whatever spell she needs. Even if this isn’t the case, the twins are still part of her evil plan!

So, what is the plan?

ree

From what we have seen thus far there are 3 sections to Agatha’s plan. She has been manipulating Wanda, she wants to split Wanda and Vision apart and that she wants the twins for something. When you start to piece everything together the plan of Agatha begins to come together.

Manipulating Wanda began from the very moment Agatha met Wanda. Episode 1 and 2 were mysterious but looking back at them, both brought up the question of children, which we now know is what Agatha wanted Wanda to have. Therefore Agatha was manipulating Wanda in order for her to make herself pregnant. After this was achieved by Agatha there was no need for Vision anymore which is why she began trying to split the couple. Introducing Pietro and tricking Vision to leave Westview prove this was part of the plan.

ree

Removing Vision from Westview would then allow for the final part of Agatha’s plan to come through and that involves the twins. With Vision around there wouldn’t have been a chance for Agatha to get the children alone, which was even brought up in episode 5 when Vision didn’t allow Agatha to hold them. As such Agatha needed Vision removing from the picture so she could fulfil her plan. Moreover manipulating Wanda via Pietro also helped; the result of his actions caused Wanda to become the most depressed she has been on the show and allow for her guard regarding the twins to drop. As such Agatha finally had the twins alone.

With Agatha finally being alone with the children then her plan can finally be completed. We do not yet know what has happened to the twins, but one can assume because of the basement that Wanda found in Agatha’s home that something evil has transpired. The use of the Darkhold book is also likely due to its focus in the scene which helps bring the plan of Agatha full circle, as what she has been planning with the twins was all in order to serve her master, whom we assume to be Mephisto.

Loose Ends?

ree

Masterplans like this rarely go without problems. We have just established the plan of Agatha, but loose ends still remain. Vision hasn’t been fully removed and Monica (Teyonah Paris) breached the hex and seemed to gain her energy manipulation powers. What this means is that despite the plan of Agatha seem to work perfectly, there will be consequences as to what she has been doing.

With the sitcom style show seemingly ending with the big reveal of Agnes being Agatha Harkness it looks likely that are more traditional MCU style will conclude the series. We expect to learn more about Agatha during the final episodes and an epic battle between the two witches is I’m sure on everybody’s wish list.
