With the rights for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four being purchased by Disney, fans are eagerly awaiting the debuts of these classic characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the introduction of mutants is less clear, it has been confirmed that a Fantastic Four movie is in development. With this ground breaking news from Marvel Studios, fans have been trying to figure out how Marvel’s first family will enter the MCU. With WandaVision being the only marvel content we have viewed since the announcement, it would be fitting that Easter Eggs teasing the debut of the group would appear in the show. Whether these Easter Eggs have any links to the debut of the Fantastic Four is unclear, but that doesn’t stop us from taking a look at the possibilities that it comes true.

Traditionally the origin of the Fantastic Four occurs when a space mission goes wrong. On the mission the group gets exposed to cosmic radiation which causes them to develop powers. We expect their introduction to follow this origin, which does suggest they would have links with S.W.O.R.D. We have been introduced to S.W.O.R.D. in WandaVision and it has been established that the organisation in the past focused on space exploration, something which Reed Richards is also interested in. So there is a good chance that the group or at the very least Reed will have links to S.W.O.R.D. and the space exploration programme.

Moreover, in episode 4 of WandaVision, Director Haywood (Josh Stamberg) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris) discuss the “straight training program”. Haywood tells Monica that he “Lost half his personnel in The Blip and half of those remaining have lost their nerve.” With the origin of the Fantastic Four occurring during a space mission, there introduction into the MCU could be linked to the missing personnel that Haywood was talking about. If we get thinking about this, there is a chance that those missing astronauts were the Fantastic Four.

Any ships in space during the blip would experience a lot of trouble and those from the craft that get blipped would be lost in space when they returned 5 years later. However, those that remain on the ship would struggle to navigate with the lack of a crew. If this crew was the members of the Fantastic Four then that would explain their origin as a space mission went terribly wrong due to the blip. Marvel Studios has also confirmed that Avengers: Endgame will be a catalyst for many of the stories in phase 4, which does create the possibility that the Fantastic Four’s origin links to the blip. With the lack of a crew, the ship would lose control and would lead the group to a part of space that exposes them to cosmic radiation.

Even though the blip could explain the origin of the group, it would still be hard to explain their return to Earth. Instead what Haywood could have been implying when he said they were moving away from manned missions, is that space exploration has been abandoned and those working on it were fired. Reed Richards would have been one of them. This would then allow for Reed to found his own company like in the comics allowing him to build his fortune.

There is also a chance that we actually meet Reed in WandaVision. In episodes 5 and 6 Monica talks about an aerospace engineer that can help her get back into the hex. We also know that she and Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) were on the way to meet this person as episode 6 ended. Episode 7 should be when we finally meet this engineer and the question of who this person is still remains a puzzle. One of the possibilities is Reed Richards. In the comics Reed is an expert in a number of sciences. Aerospace engineering is one of his areas of expertise, therefore he has to be considered to be the guy that Monica is set to meet.

Also, this could be the case if we include the theory in which Haywood cuts Reed and the space program from S.W.O.R.D. Monica wasn’t around when this happened which would mean she still has a connection to that program which Reed could have been a part of. With Monica going rouge against Haywood she wouldn’t be contacting someone from S.W.O.R.D., it would have to be someone separate from the organisation and that person could be Mr. Fantastic, Reed Richards.

What are the Chances?

Nobody can be blamed for theorising how the Fantastic Four will enter the MCU, but the chances of their debut coming in WandaVision don’t seem likely. The possibility that Reed is the aerospace engineer still has to be considered, but the context of his connection to S.W.O.R.D. and Monica is all based of a line Haywood says during episode 4 and then isn’t mentioned again.

What has to be explained is how Monica knows the aerospace engineer and it would need a lot of explaining if this person is to be Reed. More likely, the aerospace engineer is someone we and Monica have already met. During Captain Marvel a bond began to form between the young Monica and the daughter of Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). Now, both are older and hold a lot of experience. The experience that Talos’ daughter gains could be in aerospace engineering. Rather than Reed who we haven’t met yet, the ‘guy’ that Monica is meeting is likely to be the daughter of Talos, whom has been introduced to us and to Monica.

Everyone is buzzing with the news that the Fantastic Four are coming to the MCU and with that we are looking at every possible introduction for the group. WandaVision has definitely teased it and has still left the possibility we may meet the group. However for a property as popular and big as the Fantastic Four it would make more sense for their introduction to come in their own movie rather than in WandaVision. We are expecting to find out who the aerospace engineer is in the next episode of WandaVision and if it is Reed then the internet will blow up. No matter how we meet the Fantastic Four we do expect the group to be a major part of the MCU for many years.
